Application requirements

To apply, submit a resume that shows you have at least seven years of professional experience in the meeting and event or business travel industry with a minimum of three years of management experience with two years of profit and loss responsibility. You will also be asked to provide a personal statement of interest and a letter of recommendation from a professional colleague or supervisor.

  Resumes should be up to date, include current role and must clearly demonstrate:

• Letter of Recommendation 
  Letters of recommendation should be written by a professional colleague or supervisor, appear on official company letterhead, and clearly state the candidate’s suitability for the CMM program.
  
  
• Personal Statement 
  The personal statement provides candidates with an opportunity to tell their story from a perspective that may not easily be gleaned from the resume. In the past, candidates have chronicled their experience in the industry, recapped their resume, discussed how they plan to use the knowledge acquired in the CMM program, and explained how the CMM is a natural next step on their career path.
  

Once your application is approved, you will be able to complete the registration process. Registration deadlines typically are a full month prior to the program start date, so plan ahead. Once approved, you have 24 months to choose a cohort to attend. We offer the CMM at least twice annually.

Program Objectives

• Develop a data analytic strategy to measure and report on the business performance of your meeting or meetings portfolio
• Explore communication strategies to better explain to stakeholders the value of aligning business goals and meeting(s) objectives
• Gain exposure to financial statements and how business transactions affect organizational decision-making
• Discuss the basics of building a budget, then analyze the difference between actual results and budgeted performance
• Identify how to apply best practices to mitigate risk and limit liability through legal or contractual avenues
• Apply a deeper understanding of strategic negotiation and sourcing to influence outcomes and impact the cost, quality and performance of your meeting(s)
• Explore new models for optimizing process improvement and policy/regulatory compliance
• Gain insight into personal management styles and the skills necessary to be successful when managing teams, suppliers and outsourced services
• Demonstrate leadership in change management through creation and analysis of a work-based case project

CMM Program Cost

The CMM Program member registration fee is $2,499 per person for either MPI or GBTA members and $2,999 for non-members. Complete enrollment in the CMM Program includes:

• 3.5 day program; complete agenda available online
• All program course materials
• Online Boot Camp
• Hotel rooms for 4 nights
• Breakfast and lunch daily
• Dinner for 3 nights
• Ground transportation to and from the airport

The MPI Foundation has CMM Program scholarships available to MPI members in good standing.
