Our history

Meeting Professionals International (MPI) was founded in 1972 by a small group of professionals who saw the need for a dedicated community to connect and support those in the meeting and event industry. Their vision was simple yet powerful: to bring people together, empower industry professionals, and elevate the value of meetings and events.

Since that first meeting 53 years ago, MPI has grown from its grassroots beginnings to become the leading global association for event professionals. With over 60,000 members and community participants across more than 70 chapters and clubs worldwide, MPI is dedicated to equipping its members with the resources, education, and connections they need to succeed.

Today, MPI is a hub for innovation, education, and connection for event professionals. From industry-leading conferences like the World Education Congress (WEC), to specialized designations and certifications, to regional chapters across the globe, MPI continues to empower its members to “run their show” with confidence.
